Can Yoga help Fertility?

There are many different factors that affect fertility including genetic disposition, hormones, past traumas, accidents, and stress.

One important way yoga can potentially help fertility is to reduce stress. Yoga helps reduce stress by calming the central nervous system.  Yoga asanas (postures) and breathing massage the internal organs, muscles and nerves. The normally overworked adrenals and sometimes, lazy ovaries, get a massage and increase in the blood flow.  This helps them to both balance and improve their ability to do their jobs correctly.

As well as having a calming affect on the body, the right postures will stimulate blood flow, which means increased nutrients and oxygen, our life force, in the uterus. This helps the body on all levels such as hormonal balance, preparation of and creating space in the womb, and helping to heal past traumas in the reproductive system.

Whether or not yoga can help predisposed hereditary problems would have to do with many factors; the nature of the problem, the age, past health concerns, and many, many other known and unknown factors of the practitioner, as well as the experience of the teacher in this specific area and ability to work patiently with the student.

Yoga can help fertility in my opinion. It certainly helps the practitioner deal with life while trying to get pregnant. One thing is for sure, a person who is relaxed, healthy from the inside and full of vitality has a better chance of getting pregnant than someone chronically tired and depleted in oxygen, blood flow and nutrients.

Yoga also has an aspect of mediation and visualization and this can positively affect the practitioner in building mental strength for whatever the outcome, as well as set the intention of what they want to happen. The mind is very powerful and the more we focus it on one thing, the stronger that imprint becomes.

There is nothing to lose by doing yoga when trying to get pregnant and everything to gain. A proper yoga class is fantastic for pregnant ladies as well. And of course for when the bubba is here, to keep Mom fit, strong, balanced and sane.  Yoga is fantastic on every level.
