The Guide: Tips for your first visit to Sangha!

Before your first class:

Prepare for class by drinking plenty of water/fluids throughout the day or day before, (try not to have a really big drink immediately before class as it can slosh around!). Avoid eating a large meal prior to class, an empty stomach is ideal or have a small snack such as a piece of fruit, or some electrolytes such as coconut water, or a great natural hydrator: Juice of half a lemon in a glass of water, with a pinch of salt and a little honey/agave/maple syrup.

It’s best to practice on an empty or nearly-empty stomach. If it’s been many hours since your last meal, a light snack such as fruit, some nuts or slice of cheese is a great idea.

What To Drink

Prepare for class by drinking plenty of water/fluids throughout the day or day before, (try not to have a really big drink immediately before class as it can slosh around!). Avoid eating a large meal prior to class, an empty stomach is ideal or have a small snack such as a piece of fruit, or some electrolytes such as coconut water, or a great natural hydrator: Juice of half a lemon in a glass of water, with a pinch of salt and a little honey/agave/maple syrup

What To Wear

Wear light clothing suitable for sweating for Hot classes, shorts or lightweight leggings and a sports bra or tank are ideal. Try not to wipe your sweat off with a towel during class. Allowing the sweat to evaporate off your skin is your body's cooling mechanism. Wiping makes you hotter and there’s just more sweat behind it!

What to bring:

You may wish to bring or rent an extra towel for showering after class. We have a hair dryer & hair straighteners available if you are heading straight to work or out and want to get ready! The studio is open for 30 minutes after class finishes, please make sure you are ready within that time so our teachers can lock up.

What NOT To Bring To Class:

No cellphones (or fancy internet watches/ things that beep) permitted in the Yoga room and please put your device on silent in the storage cubbies in the reception areas

Arrive early, 20 minutes before class begins is ideal, allow time for:

Parking - Two rows of parking , if two classes are running over the same time, Hot(big) room parks on the right, Warm(small) room on the left. Our classes can finish at different times so please make sure you are not blocking a row of parking for a class that may finish before yours. If there is only one class, you may park on either side. 3 spaces on the gravel, please leave enough space for 3 cars to fit. If the parks are full, use street parking along Industrial place or in the large car park at the bottom of Industrial Place / Gorge road.

- Check in for your class using the tablet at the front desk, you can also do this on your device before arriving! If you are dropping in without booking you can use the tablet to sign in as well as check in. If you need to pay for class please see the front desk staff.

- Let your teacher know about any injuries or medical concerns before class. You can also email the manager if you prefer not to discuss it in the office and we can notify our teachers of your personal needs. Email Helen - info@queenstownyoga.com.

- If you need to rent a mat or towel , or buy water, please see the front desk team, these items are kept at the desk (mats hung up in the room have been used…). After class hang your mat on the rack (or roll and place underneath) and place used towels in the basket next to the hot room door. - Set up a spot in the room and grab any props you may need for the class, your teacher will mention any that are necessary/recommended. If you are new to Hot classes you may wish to get a spot at the back of the room near the windows or door, they are our cooler spots. Do your best to be dressed, ready and on your mat a few minutes before class starts. Have a full water bottle, use the bathroom before class and take time to relax or meditate. For Yoga classes please observe silence in the room before and after classes. The studio will be locked 2 minutes before the class begins so please be on time.

- Stay for the whole class, your practice is a commitment to a shared experience, arriving late or leaving early can mess with the mojo…
